Munkae Madness
I bumped into Josh Rolf at the Sector 9 HQ the other day, turns out he is now working in-house on a whole bunch of things while also spending time developing his Munkae trucks. The resources at sector have allowed him to get all mad scientist and really look into the development of wheels when he has some spare time. Having access to all these different urethanes and moulds would spark creativity in a mind like his and he has started to do some cool testing with new wheel shapes just to see how they would work. Great way to figure out what shapes rock i guess! Give the wheels to some world renowned shredders, let em shred em to bits and get epic feedback right after the pour!
Anywho, these big suckers they have nick-named Steam-Rollers, and I'm sure you could guess why! Josh went for the full center-set shape, around 73mm wheels with about 70mm contact patch in a whole bunch of flavours and styles. Using the technology already available Josh was able to pour wheels in this mould using Sector 9 Raceforms and RAD thane, in all the favourite flavours. He has duel duros in so many combinations, butter-ball thane in big thick race lips, and RAD thane in mixes of duros. They were some interesting wheel combinations to say the least. The crew took em to a pretty rad mountain run about an hour out of town yesterday arvo to put em to to test. Needless to say they had some fun on the wheels. The general consensus were they were fucking horrible to break in for slides but once they got the shine off some of the duel-duro combinations and the thick-lip wheels in RAD thane were winners. The boys are going to do some serious testing in times to come to find the perfect profile wheel, and with this sort of testing by solid riders on solid hills I'm sure they are going to come up with something quite soon!
